New Moons Through the Houses

The First House.

With the new moon in your first house, it is highly likely that you will make some changes in the way you present yourself to the world. After all, the first house is your marketing image or in other words, the mask we put on before we show people who we really are. For example, you might decide to change your hairstyle, your makeup, purchase new clothing that results in an obvious change of style. In addition, you may find that you’re more popular this month with people seeking you out and you feeling quite relaxed and enjoying the company of others. This is a really great time for you commence new projects.

The Second House.

This month's new moon in the second house of love or money brings with it an opportunity for you to reconsider how you feel about what you do.  You will think more about your personal values this month, and how comfortable you are with them.  This is a time where your personal income and financial dealings with lending institutions or wealthy people may come into focus.  One good thing to do under this particular influence is to rethink your savings plan. If you don't have one now might be a good time to start one!  If you have a partner it may represent a time where you consider taking on a mortgage.

The Third House.

Generally, you will find this to be a very busy month, with lots of activity short trips and visiting others.  Unfortunately, you may take on too many projects and tend to scatter your energies, which will all be in pursuit of the exchange of ideas.  You may receive news during the month and correspondence that relates to your personal matters which may correspond to an important decision you need to make.  If you have brothers and sisters it is highly likely that you may be in contact with them more this month than normal. Although this can be a busy month communicating it is often a time when you make a decision about taking up some form of study.

The Fourth House.

An issue at home or with family members with your parents or older individuals is likely when the new moon is in the fourth house.  You may decide to have a real cleanout of your room (if you're living at home) or your house if you have a place of your own. As the fourth house is the house of endings and beginnings this can be a month where you resolve any outstanding issues and commence making plans to move forward.

The Fifth House.

This is a month where your inner child needs be heard and come out to play!  Go on have fun.  Enjoy your hobbies, take in theatre, go to an art show, or enjoy your favourite sport!  The important thing is to tap into whatever you enjoy and engage in your creativity.  Those of you who have been keeping your creativity under wraps may commence a more serious pursuit of satisfaction by joining the club will go to classes. You may find yourself being connected with children in some way. If you happen to be studying you may find that you have major projects/assignments due and you may find it easier to tap into your own creativity in order to complete the works.

The Sixth house.

If you haven't got a well-being program in place, now is the perfect time to do so.  Conduct your own stock take: are you fit, do you read the right type of food, do you get regular sleep or do you burn the candle at both ends? Have a look in the mirror and if you don't like what you see start making some positive changes. You may also think about your current work situation. If there are any issues that have been brewing in the workplace it is likely they will surface during this month. If you are not happy you may resign or commence seeking other employment opportunities.  Alternatively, if you enjoy your place of work, and the type of work you do good things will come your way.

The Seventh House

As the seventh house concerns itself with marital, business partners or teammates, this month will focus on the relationship that you have with these individuals.  Typically, the new moon brings with it new opportunities and new directions.  If you're in a marriage or a permanent relationship, you may find that this is the time where you seek to do something differently or take the relationship to a new level. In business, partners may need to review certain aspects of the business and in particular, the nature of their relationship and how well they do business together. This particular placement of the mind brings into focus our willingness to get along with other people and make concessions.  When trying to understand their perspective: difficult relationships can often find common ground and positive relationship is continued to expand.

The Eighth House.

When the moon is in the eighth house, it can be a mixed blessing.  On one hand, you may decide that you become a little more interested in the secrets of the universe and explore them more deeply. One thing is for sure, it is likely your feelings will be more intense this month.  Alternatively, on a mundane level, you may become involved in tax or jointly held money and property issues.  Just a little word of warning that if you have debts that have not been paid now could be a time when the collector knocks at your door! It is likely that during this month you will seek out sexual satisfaction or at the very least seek closeness and intimacy with another person. Of course, under the right circumstances, this could be very enriching and quite delicious.  If you have the right person enjoy the opportunity to become closer. Play that artful game of seduction!

The Ninth House.

It's time to have a sense of fun and think about travel to faraway places and make plans for the future. If you're not in a position to travel yourself, you may have connections with people overseas or you may find yourself daydreaming about distant locations where you would like to idle away the hours! Some of you may have legal dealings.  If you are thinking long-term about your future opportunities, higher education may become front of mind. You may start exploring what courses are available in order to better your skills and longer term opportunities.

The Tenth House.

Generally, the tenth house tends to rule one's reputation with people in authority and your career. This month is the time where you may come before the public or be recognised for something you have accomplished. From a spiritual standpoint, the tenth house gives consideration to your life perspective or view of the world. During this month, you may find yourself thinking more deeply about the meaning of life: your life and are you happy with how it’s going? If you are, then continue with more of the same, however, if you're not start thinking about those areas you would like to change and what are you going to put in place to make that happen.

The Eleventh House.

Embracing the altruistic Aquarian way, it is highly likely that you will involve yourself with group activities and surround yourself with friends during the month. Your social life and social activities will feature strongly and will probably provide you with really great opportunities to networking. The eleventh house is also the house of your dreams, hopes and wishes so you may find yourself focusing on those things that provide us with motivation to keep moving forward in life.  Dreams, hopes and wishes are very important components of our life.  They inspire us to get through all the mundane stuff we confront on a daily basis. Create and enjoy!

The Twelfth House.

Now is the time when we step out of our busy day to day life and ideally participate in some private reflection: something many of us are not very good at doing! I would encourage you to create a private and quiet space this week, where you can think and rechargeable batteries. This is not a month to make major change and I would recommend that you stick with routine and those things that are most familiar to you. You may have contacts with hospitals or institutions of some sort and do be careful that you don't do anything unlawful because you may just get caught!

I have had many people contact me in relation to so called astrologers wanting to sign them up. The instigators of this are fraudsters and give professional astrology a bad name. There are a several names that I get sent on a regular basis and as I understand, there are others.

They make sensationalistic statements while providing a broad overview stating that something is about to happen. The HOOK being that if you don't buy or subscribe to their stuff they can't tell you about this amazing thing happening to/for you within 3 days or a week. They express that they are so keen to tell you but in order to do so you must pay.

I wanted to see what they produced so I gave my data. The information collected did not allow for the required data needed to cast an authentic horoscope. They didn't ask my time (critical) or place of birth (also critical)! This is just not conceivable to real astrologers. Professional astrologers operate with a level of precision that is essential to a professional consultation.

Further I was bombarded with emails and offers which I found to border on harassment. Finally I blocked them. I also understand from Astro Databank that these type of sites have lots of victim reports.

If you have a genuine desire to gain insight into your life, its themes and development opportunities, please go see a professional astrologer.

Introduction to Retrograde Planets

In her book, Retrograde Planets: Traversing the Inner landscape, Erin Sullivan (1992) states that, retrogression is the period of time during which a planet in our solar system appears to be moving backwards as we see it against the fixed backdrop of the stars. This phenomena is entirely due to our Earth space perspective and was well known to the ancient astronomers.

Retrograde motion and the subsequent appearance of planets going backwards is, of course, only an illusion that is based on our view from earth into the solar system. Astrologers interpret these movements in terms of human behaviour and these times often coincide with periods of contemplation and re-evaluation, the quality of which is determined by the plant that is retrograde.

Mercury Venus and Mars are the faster-moving planets and as such their retrograde periods do not last that long, approximately 21 days, 41 days and 72 days respectively. Jupiter, Saturn are a little longer, approximately 121 and 138 days respectively while Uranus Neptune and Pluto can seem to last forever, approximately 151, 158 and 182 respectively.

Retrograde Periods 2016

Mercury (ruler of Gemini and Virgo). In general Mercury rules communication and short distance travel, however, these periods will be particularly felt by the signs ruled by Mercury

  • 5 January – 25 January; In Aquarius, spend time volunteering, use the Internet for research and as it moves backwards into Capricorn, reconsider your career options organise your home or work space and work out how you might manifest your dreams!
  • 28 April – 22 May: In Taurus, review your financial situation, invite friends to dinner or connect with family members.
  • 30 August – 22 September: In Virgo, give that critic that sits on your shoulder a rest, clean out your garage or review your daily habits and routines.
  • 19 December – 9 Jan  (2017): In Sagittarius where you might like to plan a trip take a stand on a social justice issue or as it moves back into Scorpio get in touch with your deepest thoughts or engage in therapy and/or meditation.

Mars (ruler of Aries and traditional ruler of Scorpio). Mars rules assertiveness, aggression and in general, the urge to get what you want however the retrograde periods will be particularly felt by the signs ruled by Mars. Issues may surface that you have completely forgotten about. Your motivation and drive may seem to vanish leaving you feeling depleted of energy. It is not a good idea to commence new projects. Do not become argumentative, you will lose!

  • 17 April – 29 June 2016: Mars will retrograde in Sagittarius (17 April – 28 May) and travel back into Scorpio (28 May – 29 June)

Read About Mars Retrograde

Jupiter (ruler of Sagittarius and traditional ruler of Pisces). Jupiter rules growth and expansion as well as higher learning and overseas travel however during the retrograde period the normal rate of growth and expansion slows. It can be an opportunity to plan a trip, or plan to study or reflect on your personal values and how they do or don’t support you.

  • 8 January - 9 May 2016

Saturn (ruler of Capricorn and traditional ruler of Aquarius). During the retrograde period we understand more about the structures we create in our life and more subtly we learn we are not always able to control our environment. We may need to reconsider the order of our priorities and how we utilise our time.

  • 25 March - 13 August 2106

Outer Planet Retrogrades

Although these planets exhibit their own unique characteristics it is commonly understood, at least amongst astrologers, that they will operate unconsciously. We generally view that access to this and energy only comes through a connection and activation with a personal planet such as the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars.

Uranus (modern ruler of Aquarius). Uranus is called the awakener. Retrograde Uranus brings into focus life’s imperfections and with it and in an emphasis on freedom. You may become very disillusioned with your own mundane self and experience and in a conflict between the old and the new. Excitement is replaced with anxiety and it is time to test what has lasting value.

  • 02 August - 29 December 2016

Neptune (modern ruler of Pisces). With Neptune retrograde, you may have difficulties with establishing boundaries. You may have strong impressions that may not be easily explained yet need to be explored. You may experience some form of identity crisis and feel that you are at the mercy of other people or circumstances. It is an opportunity to delve deeper into the intangible self and with psychically sensitive individuals this period may produce a form of psychic overload. Take it easy.

  • 13 June - 20 November 2016

Pluto (modern ruler of Scorpio). Pluto retrograde brings with it greater intensity and may enable greater insights into the self. There seems to be a need for more self-control and control of others. This is a good time to re-evaluate those areas you can control and let go of those areas you can’t. It’s a time for internal housekeeping.

Astrology and Literature

New Moon: (0 degrees - 45 degrees)
moonphases
This is the beginning of the a new cycle. You see things from your personal perspective and new focus and manifestation of energy surface. There is the potential to try a new way of doing things or to have a clear picture of what you would like to do. This is the time to begin new projects, set new direction and activate start-ups. Timing with business activities starts here. It is the time in a cycle that you are stimulated to take a new action. During this phase the new cycle is being seeded by your vision, inner and outer. Use visualisation to activate the mindset and law of attraction.

Crescent Phase: (45 degrees - 90 degrees)
This is a time when work presents itself and you become aware of what you have to do to overcome obstacles. You may feel overwhelmed from issues of the past. You may be handling a lot of red tape, bureaucratic details or juggling various tasks.

First Quarter Phase: (90 degrees - 135 degrees)
This is when you figure out a structure in which to operate, plan and execute your concepts. Managerial concerns occupy your time.
It is the time in a cycle to take the initial action necessary to achieve your goal by expressing your needs and desires.

Gibbous Phase: (135 degrees - 180 degrees)
After seeing and executing a structure, you want everyone to know about it. Work towards clarification and ask, 'why?' There is a lot of energy directed at this point of the cycle to achieve your goals and be heard. There is often a high level of anticipation.

Full Moon: (180 degrees - 225 degrees)
You’ve been working very hard and things are coming to a head. However, there is too much to do. It feels as though you are stretched out as far as you can be. Standing back and looking at the activities of the last two weeks (when the New Moon began), you realize you have to let go of something.
It is the time in a cycle that you are given a clear view so that you can make adjustments to put you back on track to manifesting the goals you set at the new phase. Go to a public place. Do something with a friend. Listen to their feedback.

Disseminating Phase: (225 degrees - 270 degrees)
It does exactly what it sounds like. You are disseminating information that you havelearned, gathered and tested. This is a great time to sell and train.

Third Quarter Phase: (270 degrees - 315 degrees)
This begins the quiet phase of the month. The energy turns inward as you withdraw from the activity of this last phase. There is a sense that something new is coming and intuitively, you begin to study or learn something new to prepare for it. This begins a phase when you clean things out.
Keywords for the Last Quarter phase is: realignment, revision, integration, cleansing. It is the time in the cycle to take closing action, to follow-up and complete the activities begun at the New phase. During this phase you become aware of what is and is not working with respect to the achievement of your goal for the cycle. The movement is toward integration.

Balsamic Phase: (315 degrees - 360 degrees)
This is a very still time. It seems as though nothing is happening; yet much is happening. A seed has been planted and is incubating for the new cycle. A lot of ideas and inspirations are conceived during this time as you allow time for them to germinate and gestate. There is an old saying “still waters run deep”. That is the experience of a Balsamic Moon Phase.

The cycle lasts for 29.5 days

The New Moon is the beginning of a new cycle. It is a time to begin new projects and feel a sense of energy renewal. It's a time to forge ahead. This usually occurs in the house in your horoscope where the new moon is transiting. The first quarter phase is where you become aware of any roadblocks and what you may have to do to remove them. Then the Full Moon is a time to stand back and look at what you have been doing and modify your plans by letting the superfluous and irrelevant go. The 3rd quarter phase is a time for you to review, tweak and integrate your plan and so get rid of those things that are not taking you towards your goal. Void of Course Moon: What is it?

The term Void Of Course (VOC) refers to the condition of the Moon between the moment it performed the last major aspect with another planet in its current sign and the moment of stepping into the next sign.

The void of course Moon periods cover a wide range of actions and it is generally accepted that it is most unfavourable to do anything that requires a positive outcome. In business that includes: sending emails or faxes, applying for a job or consulting assignment, asking for favours, starting a lawsuit or a business, announcing anything (e.g. new product), buying assets or important items such as a car, a property, etc. Meetings held during the VOC period are usually unproductive, so be careful!

The basic rule is: when you want something to happen, a situation to move ahead and be successful, avoid the VOC periods.

This rule can be used to your advantage if there is a matter that you do not want concluded. Lets say you were negotiating and for some reason need additional time to allow information to arrive or be verified, have a catch up or state of the nation meeting but do not make any decisions.

The VOC periods are not great when needing to achieve things like, closing sales and driving for results. They are best used for catching up with routine activities that do not require much focus: emails, reading, reviewing correspondence etc. Relaxing and taking time out is also a good activity on the VOC.

You will notice that the VOC period can vary from a few minutes, to several hours, to a couple of days. There is no particular pattern, the universe doesn’t work that way.

Many of you are already familiar with the term Mercury Retrograde. This is another cycle that most people understand is a time where communication seems to go somewhat crazy! When you get Mercury Retrogrades and VOC Moons occurring at the same time, it’s a double whammy…take a break from forging ahead: stop and think, create, slow down and connect with your intuition…meditate, contemplate, then as the planets go the right way…act in a focused manner.

For Mercury Retrogrades periods and interpretations please go to www.astrologymatters.com

Formula:
The VOC period is the difference between the time the Moon goes void on one day/date and the time it enters the next sign. Tip! you will find it easier to use the 24hr clock

So what!

  • Mark the time segments in your PDA/calendar/scheduler with a highlighter. If you spend some time doing this in a very short period of time it will become automatic to do it and work with it quite effectively!
  • Avoid doing business during the designated VOC times unless the outcome you want is no outcome!

Printing

The VOC Calendar is A3 for printing and using as a wall chart. You can print it off as and A4 by adjusting your printer settings
