Would you like to understand more about relationships?
We often use horoscopes to identify our strengths, weaknesses, potential and limitations; however, there is much more that we can utilise astrology for. The area of relationships is one such area, and in astrological language, this study is called Synastry. You have probably seen very simple attempts at sun sign comparisons that are supposed to indicate your compatibility with another. This is an oversimplistic way of looking at potential relationships. The serious study of astrology acknowledges that there is much, much more to a person than their sun sign, and that considering them without the whole picture sells them short.
Types of relationships
We experience many types of relationships in our daily lives: lover, friend, parent, child, teacher, mentor, coach, boss, colleague, and business partner, to mention a few. All these relationships will differ in their purpose, duration, energy, and quality. The way energy is connected and exchanged will reveal the purpose, likely duration, and quality of the relationship. Understanding the purpose of a relationship is beneficial, as is understanding how it works. What is particularly useful is how to maximise the good stuff and make the challenging aspects work for us.
How do Romantic Relationships work?
When considering romantic relationships, there are two key elements at play: attraction and longevity. Attraction may get a relationship going, but if there are no signs of longevity in the horoscope, the relationship really will be a passing phase, and it does not matter if it’s a straight relationship or a same-sex couple. There are no fewer than 26 points that tell us that the chemistry is working. And then there’s the quality: will the relationship be harmonious and congenial, or will it be the relationship from hell? The way these points connect will tell us about the quality and the ease or difficulty experienced by the couple. Not all points of contact need to be present; however, the greater the number, the stronger the attraction, for good or ill!
Longevity
Longevity requires other combinations, and the lack of these explains why we find some people attractive and enticing yet never seem to get past first base! Though most people chuckle about how they survived the seven-year itch, surprise, surprise, in round figures, those seven years broadly correlate with a significant astrological cycle that culminates between 28 and 30 years of age, then again between 56 and 58 years of age, and again in one’s mid-80s. This is only one of many significant astrological cycles that coincide with key periods of growth, challenge and change in our lives. Although they can be positive, they often correlate with emotional isolation, job changes, and/or the breakup of a relationship. Nevertheless, if the fabric of the relationship is strong and focuses on what ‘we want’ rather than what ‘I want’, couples usually emerge more connected than ever. Astrologers are able to discuss the substance of the relationship: its endearing qualities, its pitfalls and blockages, along with the exact dates these cycles hit and last from one week to up to one year.
